Message: July 30, 2010 - Closing Day - Awards & Family Fun Day Plans Announced
The following are plans, as they are shaping up, for the final day, our Awards and Family Fun Day, Saturday, August 7th. Date: Saturday, August 7, 2010 - Awards and Family Fun Day Note : RAIN OR SHINE (Discussed Later) Arrival Time: 8:00 a.m. Be there no later than 8:00 a.m. to assemble with your team to march out with your team's flag onto the field for the ceremony. Fun Day: A petting zoo of small farm animals will be set up for the kids for as long for the day as able to, sponsored compliments of the Kim Kralovetz Family. Program Time: 8:30 a.m . Ceremony at 8:30 a.m., followed by games beginning at 8:45 a.m. For the ceremony, we will again have an Olympic Theme, with each team and their buddies marching with it's team flag onto and around the field. The "Graduating" 19 year-olds, for whom this will be their last game, will lead the parade carrying in a mock Olympic Torch. The 19 year-olds will be recognized. All teams will remain on the field while we introduce the "Shining Stars Dance Team", the dance program participants in the class of dance for children with special needs, Marcia Brockman, Leader. This dance presentation and funding for the props and performance in front of the Miracle League audience is sponsored by a grant from Target Stores Foundation. Following the dance, the two teams playing in the first game will go to their dugouts. Their flags will be taken and placed on the flag pole for raising with the national anthem. The remainder of teams will stay in place for the anthem. A solo playing of the national anthem on his trumpet will be performed by Adam Fulwiler, Austin Fulwiler's brother and member of the band named Orpheus. After the anthem the remaining team flags will be placed in the holders around the outfield fence. The remaining teams dismissed from the field as we begin the first game. Game Time: 8:45 a.m. 10:00 a.m. 11:15 a.m Break 12:45 p.m. 2:00 p.m. 3:15 p.m. 4:30 p.m. We will play 1 - inning games the same as opening day. Immediately following the games there will be an awards handout on the field where each player is given a trophy. Coaches are asked to come out onto the field to hand them out to their players. Family Food: Reserved tickets required After each game, players, their families, and buddies having advance reserved tickets may cash them in for a free hot dog and soda. Due to the very large numbers of food sign-ups this year, it was not possible to provide free-of-charge ice cream treats for our entire group, but Zesty's will be there and have a very reasonably priced ice cream sandwich for a slight extra fee. COME RAIN OR SHINE The event will go on rain or shine. Be there at 8:00 a.m. regardless. Here's the plan. In the unlikely event of rain, we will either have a rain-delayed start, or call off the playing of all games for the entire day. If, after a delay, the games are called off, we will still have the dance team performance under a tent, followed by awarding of trophies and serving of the food, again taking place under a tent. If the games are, in fact, cancelled, then the tent will remain open only until 11:00 a.m., rain or shine, for all remaining teams and parents to stop and pick up their child's trophy and to receive the Family Day food. Hopefully it will not rain, but if it does, PLEASE come and pick up your trophy and eat the food between those hours of 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. After 11:00 a.m. we'd shut down. This event will not be rescheduled.
